Dwyer was endorsed Monday by Democratic delegates attending the nomination session from the 28th Senate District, which in addition to Fairfield, includes Easton and Newtown, as well as parts of Westport and Weston. The seat is held by state Sen. Tony Hwang, R-Fairfield, who has been nominated by district Republicans to seek a second term this year.
“As a young man, I was fortunate enough to be provided the resources necessary to have a successful and fulfilling life,” Dwyer said in a statement issued by his campaign. “It is my belief that all young people growing up in the 28th District, and Connecticut as a whole, should be provided the same opportunity.”
Dwyer is a retired president and CEO of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA. Before moving to Fairfield 24 years ago, Dwyer had served on the Board of Education in Rye., N.Y., and the Northampton County Council in Pennsylvania.
